November 2024 taurus full moon: the snake virgin conjoins with the primordial sky god part 1
For months now, Uranus has been hovering around one of the most problematic fixed stars in the sky, Algol. This star sits at 26°10’ Taurus, and the relationship between these 2 archetypal characters could not be more complex.
The Moon also has a profoundly complex relationship to Algol, for very different reasons. The upcoming full moon in Taurus will be happening within 2 degrees orb applying to Algol, and Algol will be rising on the eastern horizon exactly as the Moon peaks in fullness.
Let us sit with Uranus first.
The planet Uranus was discovered in the 18th century, long after ancient astrology had morphed through multiple monist-dominated ages into something disconnected to its mythological roots. It is named after the primordial Sky God, whose name in Greek simply refers to the Heavens. In the primary Greek creation myth, Uranus was married to Gaia, the Earth Goddess, and their intercourse resulted in the birth of the primary layer of creation. Saturn castrated Uranus after Gaia objected to the banishment of a race of giants to Tartarus.
While the astrological sphere has attributed Uranus Promethean and Luciferian traits, including mercurial things like innovation and technology, this is a slow moving outer planet. The atmosphere on Uranus is extremely icy and layered, according to astronomers, and it does have extreme storms; however, its distance from earth and invisibility to the naked eye signify something that belongs more to the unconscious realm. Its equator tilts to the Sun every 42 years- spring arrives once every 42 years. It takes twice that time, 84 years, to return to the same point in its orbit.
The violent storms may indicate unexpected things arriving from an extremely icy and inhabitable place.
Uranus is in the realm of the unconscious. Innovation and “strokes of genius” do bubble up from the unconscious in unexpected ways and at unexpected times. But this is not really out of the ordinary on this planet, this is how its atmosphere works.
The coldness of Uranus is analogous to the apparent coldness of the near autistic genius with profoundly repressed emotions, obsessed with making the world fit into a left-brain projection.
This is all very interesting and potentially useful, but the ancient people could not create analyses of the atmospheres of the planets, an idea that was likely foreign to their thinking and perhaps even irrelevant They based the planets’ meanings on their color, brightness, speed, and retrograde patterns which we could perceive, here.
Uranus is very slow and dim at the very best, mostly invisible to the naked eye, and has a bluish color.
Saturn usurped Uranus’ position as the King of the Gods when he castrated his father. This gives us a dynastic line from Uranus to Saturn to Jupiter as the 3 rulers of the Heavens.
Involuntary or voluntary castration is an extremely important theme for ancients. It signified infertility, feminization, slavery or religious asceticism, a submission to the Great Goddess or a desire to become like her, and death- it does not turn a male into a female, but it does change the quality of masculinity if the seed is not potent. Since castration was the act that enabled Saturn to dynastically usurp Uranus, it clearly is symbolic removal of royal masculine power in a Naturalistic sense. The Alpha male could not be a eunuch.
Uranus is the sky itself, he is the primordial sky god. His importance in the formation of the world as we know it is not diminished for this usurpation.
Algol is perhaps the most powerful embodiment of the dark aspects of Gaia. When Uranus cast the original race of Giants called the Hecatoncheira into the Underworld, she conspired with her son, Saturn, to castrate and remove Uranus from power. Gaia’s scorn and anger at Uranus for sending away her children could be poetically linked to the energy of Algol.
The 10° decan section of the Sign of Taurus which Algol currently inhabits is ruled by Saturn.
Algol points to the Medusa. And the mythic snake-headed woman is not quite what we are led to believe.
Athena was the archetypal Virgin Medusa, the Goddess who sprung from the head of Zeus. She was the archetype of this class of female warriors, who were a chemically altered hybrid treated with a snake venom-infused pharmacological regimen from the age of 7, likely applied through the cutting of the skin and application of medicine directly into the bloodstream. These treatments suppressed female hormonal development and enhanced height and muscle, making her an incredibly powerful gymnast and warrior, and 6’1” by age 12. She was born with a spear in her hand and was an archer and horsewoman.
She had scaly skin and is unable to see in strong light due to the venom treatments. They put venom in their hair which would drip into their eyes.
She was the Only Begotten Child of the Great Zeus, all of this according to the Orphic Hymns.
