The Full Moon in Taurus will bring into focus the Sky God, Uranus, cold, distant, erratic and dangerous, with the Medusa, Algol, which ancient astrologers linked to primal femininity and the pharmakeia of snake venom. Algol is an eclipsing binary set of stars that appears to blink in the night sky, a unique and creepy effect that sets it apart from the vast majority of stars.

Ironically, the Amazonian warrior tradition, whose ferocity was greater than that of Mars himself, also gave us the foundation of Greek democracy. The focus on Algol brings focus on the democratic tradition- but that doesn’t mean the people screaming the loudest about democracy actually understand the limits of democracy.

The deposed King of the Sky, Uranus, is an archetype emulated in the “Wounded King” of Arthurian legends. The Knight Gallihad was the “Head Galli” or castrated warrior priest. This archetype is also defined by its relationship to the Great Goddess.

Uranus represents a cold and autist brilliance, disconnected from functional masculinity, projecting abstract ideas of justice from the heavens or on high, just as the Sky God did when he banished the primordial Giants to Hades. This archetype seeks to bring order, clarity and peace to counter overly emotional, turbulent and self-negating histrionics- but it will tend to lack tact or compassion, and may well dismiss elements of intuition in favor of abstract, computer-like logic.

Algol brings us ancient woman’s technology arising from snakes, among other animals, and especially harvested from humans, and plants. This tradition is rooted in midwifery and general medicine- but also there was a huge focus on psychoactive and physiologically debilitating compounds intended to bring the initiate into a deathlike state, and then revive them- this is the basis of Mystery Traditions such as those at Eleusis.

Snake venom was used extensively in healing, it was used to gain immunity to the bites of snakes (much of the ancient Mediterranean is home to many varieties of poisonous snakes), and also for countless other things, including to alter children’s development to make “super warriors”, as mentioned earlier.

The term “snake oil” has become associated with fraudulent medical practice and quackery, often for good reason- it’s extremely dangerous and potentially fatal. In the hands of ancient doctors and midwives, building on thousands of years of wisdom, snake oil was clearly something entirely different and profound. The presence of the snake on the caduceus and most other symbols of healing is a vestige of this ancient knowledge.

Many modern forms of corporate medicine are being revealed to be “snake oil”, fraudulent and based entirely in cultish worship of the hubristic medical industrial complex.
